Octavia Learning helps people who are out of work recognise the qualities and skills they already have and take practical steps towards employment. Through one-to-one coaching, we get to know each person’s interests and goals, then help them build confidence, gain skills, explore suitable placements and decide what to do next. Octavia Learning also trains managers to coach and mentor their teams, so new and existing staff feel supported, valued and able to progress.

We care deeply about social mobility. A person’s background or time away from work or education should not limit the opportunities open to them. We have expertise in helping people explore careers in charities, health and social care and social impact organisations. We also value unpaid work placements and volunteering as a way to build confidence, gain experience and develop skills that can open doors in any sector.

Our approach draws on Becky Phillips’s more than 25 years of experience managing people and helping them learn and develop. Becky led the Trailblazer group that developed the Fundraiser Apprenticeship Standard and has worked on apprenticeship curriculum and end-point assessment across several professions. This has given her a practical understanding of how people learn on the job, demonstrate their skills and progress with the right support. She brings that insight to the placements Octavia Learning arranges and the coaching and mentoring training it delivers for employers.

Integrity, authenticity and quality shape the way we work. They mean having honest conversations, tailoring support to each person or organisation and doing what we say we will do. When a project calls for additional expertise, we bring in trusted associates chosen for their skills and shared approach.

Becky is Octavia Learning’s founder, lead trainer and coach. She is an EMCC accredited Coach Practitioner and a Chartered Manager Fellow, with further qualifications in mentoring, learning and development and teaching.
